On 8 October 2026, we are delighted to welcome ANCE at the WHEN Hub, and host their final event of the project “Portrayal of Women Athletes in Sports Media” (POWER), co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ SPORT Programme. The event will take place at 29 Sokratous Street, from 10:00 to 17:00, and will be held in English. It will bring together project partners, researchers, athletes, and representatives of the sports media.
Over the past two years, the POWER project has been implemented across six European Union countries -Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Portugal, and Italy- with the aim of highlighting and addressing gender stereotypes in sports media. The final event will present findings from research conducted across the participating countries, along with guidelines for fairer and more equitable media representation of women athletes. The event will also provide a space for open dialogue and the exchange of perspectives among professionals in the field.
Speakers
The event will feature distinguished guest speakers, including Pedro Dias, an Olympic judo athlete and international sports expert with more than 15 years of experience, who has served as Gender Equality & Inclusion Manager at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Athina Papafotiou, an international volleyball player with many years of experience representing the Greek National Team and an extensive competitive career with clubs in Greece and abroad.
The programme will also feature representatives of the project consortium, including Zeta Lazarou, Project Manager at ANCE, with extensive experience in managing European projects in the fields of gender equality and social inclusion; Emily Kadir, Project Manager and Trainer at Mundus Bulgaria; Swami Miani, Project Officer at the ISIDEM Institute in Italy, specialising in women’s empowerment; and Dr Mariann Bardocz-Bencsik, researcher and sports communication professional at BAIS in Hungary.

The POWER project is implemented by an international consortium of six organisations: the Athens Network of Collaborating Experts (ANCE), the project coordinator in Greece; Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya (UFEC) in Spain; Association Mundus Bulgaria in Bulgaria; Budapest Association for International Sports (BAIS) in Hungary; Sport Evolution Alliance (SEA) in Portugal; and Istituto Italiano dei Media (ISIDEM) in Italy.
